ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY OPERATIONS AT GARNETT SPECIALTY PAPER PVT LTD

We at Garnett Specialty Paper Ltd.  have adopted the following to conserve resources and make the paper making operation environment friendly:

  • Recycled pre and post consumer fibers are being used as raw material, conserving forest resources to the best extent possible. The fiber preparation line at Garnett is equipped with latest equipments like a hot dispersion system, fine slotted screens etc., which help to produce quality paper from post consumer waste.

  • Garnett is equipped with Micro Filter fiber recovery system. Fiber is being recycled and reused in process, thus fibrous raw material is being conserved.

  • At Garnett, continuous efforts are on to conserve water and reduce discharge of effluent. Internal recycling of back water within the process is being done. Effort is on to further intensify recycling and taking the unit towards closed loop system. Our water consumption per unit paper produced compares with the best standards in the world.

  • The mill needs to generate three metric tones of steam to manufacture one tonne of paper. It uses 2 x 1 MW natural gas based power with combined heat and power (CHP). The waste heat exhaust after power generation is also utilized in the paper making process. The company’s captive power generation using natural gas and recovery of waste heat from the engine exhaust for process steam generation reduces greenhouse gases emission by over 4000 MT of Carbon Dioxide per year.

  • A full fledged Effluent Treatment Plant with Clarification, aeration, filtration and activated carbon bed for colour removal is in operation at Garnett. Further, the effluent after treatment at Garnett, goes to an advanced  common effluent treatment plant ( CETP) which is one the largest of its kind in Asia.

  • Garnett sources virgin pulp from suppliers who are FSC certified/ known to have sustainable forest resources.

At Garnett continuous efforts are on to adopt cleaner technology.
